This is another common question which will be asked at some stage of the interview process so have your answer prepared! Make sure you don’t waffle and that you’re direct and focus on the future. Under no circumstances should you speak badly of your previous/current employer. Besides being tactless the interviewer will be left wondering if you might bad-mouth his company or even worse, disclose sensitive information. Be as positive as possible and practice your answer so that you sound confident about your goals and aims for the future.

Suggestion: I’m really enjoying my work at x company and my latest appraisal suggested that I am performing well and am in line for a promotion in the future. But it is not likely that the business will grow for a year or two so I don’t want to be coasting.
